Do you know how parrots are caught in the jungles? A thin rope is tied across two supports. The moment a parrot comes and sits on the rope, it immediately hangs upside down because, the rope turns due to the parrot’s weight. Now, the upside-down hanging parrot feels that it is badly caught, its feet are entangled and there is no way to get away.In fact, it is the parrot who is clutching the rope tightly, the rope is not holding it at all. But logically the parrot feels, “The rope has turned me upside down hence I am caught, the rope must be holding me!” Thus the parrot stays hanging. It tries in all possible ways to straighten itself up, so that it can fly away, but the parrot is unable to manage to do so, because the rope is very light compared to the weight of the parrot. No matter how much it tries, it always swings back to its upside-down position. Thus, the more the parrot tries, the more it gets convinced that simply there is no way of release. Even if it leaves the grip in its upside-down position it can fly away because the rope has not really caught it. If only the parrot could understand this, it could undo its grip and fly away the same moment. But it tries first to sit upright, because the parrot has never flown in an upside-down position, it knows only one way of flying. How is the parrot hanging upside down to understand that it can also fly here and now, and that it is not caught at all? Because it is hanging upside down it fears that if it leaves the rope it will fall on the ground and die. So it clutches the rope more tightly. The hunter thus finds the parrot hanging there!

Our sufferings are not clinging to us,

But they are our very own creations. Sufferings come to us only at our own invitation. But we think, why there is so much suffering, anguish, this vicious cycle of birth and death, why this ego and how to be free of it, etc., etc.? But in reality we ourselves go on imposing the sufferings on us. We are already free, but have managed to remain in bondage like the parrot on the rope. Our consciousness is more or less in the same situation.

The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, “There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs millions of them. They all croak all night long and they are about to make me crazy!” So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant, five hundred at a time for the next several weeks.
The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said,“Well… where are all the frogs?” The farmer said, “I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!”

Also remember that problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever laid in your bed at night worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming like a million frogs croaking? Chances are pretty good that when the morning comes, and you take a closer look, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.]

(Gen 41:14) Then
Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the
dungeon. But Joseph [first] shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made
himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence.

This morning we continue our series on “Expanding
Your Capacity to Believe God” with the story of Joseph. Joseph has been
away from his family for several years by this point. His last glimmer of
hope seemed to come and go when God graced him to interpret a dream for
Pharaoh’s cupbearer. The cupbearer was supposed to mention Joseph to
Pharaoh, but he forgot all about Joseph once he got back in his position.

Two years later Pharaoh himself had a dream: he was
standing by the Nile, when out of the river there came up seven fat and healthy
cows and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven ugly and skinny
cows came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank. All
of a sudden, the skinny cows ate the fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up. He
fell asleep again and had a second dream: seven heads of grain, healthy and
good, were growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads of
grain sprouted – thin and scorched by the east wind. Then the thin heads
of grain swallowed up the healthy, full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up again.

In the morning Pharaoh’s mind was troubled so he sent
for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but
no one could interpret them for him. This is where the tide shifted for Joseph.
The chief cupbearer finally remembered Joseph. He said to Pharaoh,
“Now I remember what I was supposed to do. When you were angry with
me and your chief cook, you threw us both in jail in the house of the captain
of the guard. One night we both had dreams, and each dream had a different
meaning. A young Hebrew, who was a servant of the captain of the guard,
was there with us at the time. When we told him our dreams, he explained what
each of them meant, and everything happened just as he said it would. I got my
job back, and the cook was put to death.” This was Joseph’s big break.
Pharaoh sent for Joseph. He was quickly brought out of the dungeon, but
not before Joseph shaved and changed his clothes. He made himself
presentable before coming into the presence of the king.

So what does this mean to you today? Two things:

1. Trust
God’s timing: If
the cupbearer would have mentioned Joseph to Pharaoh when he said he would (two
years earlier), nothing would have happened. The timing was not right. Although
I am sure Joseph did not like waiting two years, it was in God’s timing for him
to wait. Know that God’s timing will not always line up with your clock,
but it is always right!

2. Face
every opportunity prepared: Although the people coming to get Joseph were in a hurry, Joseph
did not leave without first shaving and changing his clothes. He sensed
that this was his opportunity for a breakthrough and he did not approach it
unprepared. Never face an opportunity unprepared. Your preparation
will show up in your performance.

Confession for this day: Lord God. I trust Your timing and I know that You
give me opportunities at the right time. When You do, I declare that I will face them prepared. I will do my part
– pray, study, read, learn, and dress the part; and I know You will do Your part by
releasing the favour I need with the people I stand before. My preparation
shows up in my performance. I come prepared and I am blessed for it.

future.

My
precious child there are some times of suffering in your life. But the
temporary suffering of this life does not compare to the glory that
shall be revealed in you. Know this that I am with you and I will help
you. Your help comes from me, I am the God who created the heavens and
the earth, and the one who created you. I will never leave you, I will
never reject you. When your parents fail you I will pick you up, hold
you close, and adopt you. Nothing can ever separate you from my love
for you. When you are in trouble and distress my love is with you. When
you are persecuted my love is with you. When you are hungry and cold
and naked my love is with you, I am always with you. When you are in
danger and threatened with death my love is with you, I will be with
you forever.

My
precious child know that nothing can separate you from my love, no
matter how high you go, no matter how deep you sink, nothing in life
and not even death can separate you from Me, and My love for you. No
demon or any other power in hell can separate you from my love. My love
for you is revealed through Christ Jesus your Lord. In all things and
every situation you will have victory, you will conquer, because the
victory of Christ Jesus is your victory.

But
now, My precious child, I the LORD, who created you and formed you,
says: Do not be afraid, for I have purchased you. I have called you by
name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble,
I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, they will
not over flow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be
burned. I command you to be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid; do
not be dismayed, for I, the LORD your God will be with you everywhere
you go.

My
precious child, know that everything will work together for your good,
because you love me. You have been called according to my purpose. For
I knew you before you were born and I predestined you to be conformed
to the likeness of my Son, Jesus Christ. This is your destiny, and this
is your purpose, that you become one with my Son Jesus, and thus one
with me. I created you in my image so that you and I can express love
to each other. The most intimate relationship you can have is with me
because you and I are becoming one. You and your brothers and sisters
that believe in me are becoming one with Jesus, and thus one with me.
You in me, and me in you, together, unified by my love for you. You
were designed for this purpose, nothing else will ever satisfy your
deepest needs, your deepest desires, only I can. Because you seek to
know me I satisfy your heart with love, joy, and peace that only I can
give you.

My
precious child if you should forget me, and enter into sin, and not
turn back to Me on your own then I will punish you. Because your sin
will separate you from feeling My presence, and My influence, and I
want you to return to your first love, the One who loves you. I the
Lord discipline those I love, and I punish everyone who I accept as my
child. Just as a good Father disciplines His children to turn them away
from a dangerous path, so I shall discipline you for your good, that
you may share in My holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time,
but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness
and peace for those who have been trained by it.

My
precious child, When you confess your sins, I am faithful and just and
will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.
In repentance and resting in Me is your salvation, in quietness and
trusting Me is your strength. I will create in you a clean heart and
renew a right spirit within you. I will not send you away from My
presence, and I will not take My Holy Spirit from you. I will restore
again the joy of your salvation, and make you willing to obey Me. Then
you will teach My ways to sinners, and they will return to Me also.
Humble yourself, therefore, under My mighty hand, that I may lift you
up at the right time.

My
precious child do not forget all my benefits, I forgive all your sins
and heal all your diseases, I rescue your life from the pit of
destruction and crown you with love and compassion. I satisfy your
desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.
I The LORD work righteousness and justice for all the oppressed; I The
LORD am compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. I
will not always accuse, nor will I harbor my anger forever; I do not
treat you as your sins deserve or repay you according to your
iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is
My love for you because you fear Me; as far as the east is from the
west, so far have I removed your transgressions from you.

My
precious child, call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great
and mighty things, which you do not know. Always pray to Me about your
every concern, pray from your mouth and pray from your heart, I hear
every thought that you think. Everything that you care about, I care
about also because it concerns you. Cast all your cares and anxiety on
Me because I love you. Trust in Me, the LORD YOUR GOD, with all your
heart, do not depend on your own understanding; In everything
acknowledge Me, And I will direct your paths. Do not worry about
anything, but in everything big or small, by prayer, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to Me, the Most High God. And I will give you My
peace in your heart, peace that is beyond all human understanding, and
it will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus. Always be
joyful. Keep on praying always. No matter what happens, always be
thankful, for this is My will for you because you belong to Me.

My
precious child, Study My Book of law and truth, the Holy Bible, do not
let My words depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so
that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will
be prosperous and successful. My words are Spirit and they are Life. If
you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you will, and
it will be given you. For the word of God is living and powerful.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing
soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and
attitudes of the heart. The most important thing you will ever own is
your Bible because it gives you knowledge of Me, The Most High God. It
makes the poor rich, it gives hope to the hopeless, faith to the
fearful, food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, love to the
despised, comfort to the lonely, freedom to the prisoner, health to the
sick, light in the darkness, and life to the dying.

My
precious child I have set up circumstances and situations in your life
to cause you to seek Me and find Me. I desire that you know Me. I am
The Lord your God, full of compassion, and gracious, slow to anger,
abounding in love and faithfulness. Let not the wise man glory in his
wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man
glory in his riches; But My precious child glory in this, That you
understand and know Me, That I am the LORD, exercising compassion,
loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these
I delight and take pleasure.

All
things are created for My pleasure and My pleasure is to show forth
loving compassion. I have compassion on the poor and needy, and I am a
Father to the fatherless, I help them, and I defend them. Far below Me
are the heavens and the earth, I stoop to look down, and I lift the
poor from the dirt and the needy from the garbage dump and I set them
among princes. My precious child I want you to do these things also,
have compassion on the poor and needy and help them, this is what it
means to know Me. For I am Love, and when you live in love, you live in
Me, and I live in you. Loving compassion is good, and this is what I
require from you, to do what is right, to love compassion, and to walk
humbly with your God.

As
a father has compassion on his children, so I your LORD have compassion
on you because you fear Me; for I know how you were formed, I remember
that you are dust. Forever and ever My love is with you because you
fear Me, and My righteousness with your children’s children; with those
who keep My covenant and remember to obey My laws. My law is to love.
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On
these two commandments all of My laws are based. When you walk in love
you are obeying all My laws. When you walk in Love you are walking in
My Holy Spirit for I AM LOVE!

My
precious child come and live in My shelter, in the protection of the
Most High God, you will find rest in the presence of the Almighty. You
will say, “This I declare of the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place
of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him.” My precious child I
will rescue you from every trap and protect you from the fatal plague.
I will shield you with My wings. I will shelter you with My feathers.
My faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of
the terrors of the night, nor fear the dangers of the day, nor dread
the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at
midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are
dying around you, these evils will not touch you. But you will see it
with your eyes; you will see how the wicked are punished.

Because
you My precious child make the LORD your refuge, because you make the
Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come
near your dwelling. For I order My angels to protect you wherever you
go. They will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your
foot on a stone. You will trample down lions and poisonous snakes; you
will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

My
precious child, My servant, and My friend, whom I have chosen, I have
chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with
you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and
help you; I will hold you up with my righteous right hand. All who come
against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you
will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing
at all. For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I
myself will help you declares the LORD, your Redeemer. You will rejoice
in the LORD and glory in the Holy One of Israel.

My
precious child, when you asked Me to forgive your sins and come into
your heart I sent My Holy Spirit into you to comfort you, to give you
power, and as proof to you that I have adopted you as My child. The
Holy Spirit shall lead you into all truth because He shall testify of
Jesus, and He will give you power to testify of Jesus. I will speak to
you through My Holy Spirit that is in you, He will tell you what is
right and wrong, what is love and hate. My Holy Spirit is a gentle
whisper inside your heart telling you the path to walk in. If you walk
in My Spirit you will walk in love, you will not sin. And you will see
great and mighty things happen before you, they will not be
accomplished by strength, nor by outside force, but by My Spirit says
the LORD ALMIGHTY. Through My Holy Spirit I shall give you supernatural
gifts that you may be blessed, and that you shall bless others through
demonstrating My love for them. My Holy Spirit will be with you through
out your whole life, and after I will receive you into My glory.

I
your LORD say to you I will rescue you because you love me. I will
protect you because you trust in my name. When you call on me, I will
answer; I will be with you in trouble. I will rescue you and honor you.
I will satisfy you with a long life and give you my salvation. Call
upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall
glorify Me. It is your destiny.

Beware of mistakes made in taking too seriously circumstantial evidence. Think

before you act. Don’t forget that truth is very often stranger than fiction.

This trapper’s wife was brought to the Alaska wilderness. She was cut down by death. Their child was about two years old. To go out in the woods in the course of this trapping, the trapper had sometimes left the child for a few hours in the care of their faithful dog. On such an absence one afternoon a terrible blizzard came up. The storm was so terrible that he had to take refuge in a hollow tree to save his life.
At daybreak he rushed to his cabin. The door was open. His dog that looked at him from the corner of his eyes was covered with blood. The father’s blood froze in his veins. Just one thing had happened ~ his
dog had turned wolf and had killed his child. He reached for the axe and in a moment the same was buried into the skull of his trusted animal.

Like a maniac he scanned the scene. In hopeless desperation he uncovered the gruesome remnants of his cabin. Tipper over, the cracked furniture was telling a story of a battle that had taken place here an hour before. A faint cry came from under the bed. Again his heart seemed paralyzed. There he found his offspring safe and sound. Just a moment of pause tocuddle his dear on in his arms and he was to determine whence the blood on his dog came. The answer came just a second later. The sad riddle was solved. In a remote corner, there it was ~ a dead wolf, his huge mouth showing fangs intended for the baby which his faithful dog had saved.

Just a moment of caution and he could have held both his child and his hero dog in his arms. Remorse took over instead.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, “You have seen Hell.” They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, “I don’t understand.” It is simple,” said the Lord. ”It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.”

This morning we continue our series on “Expanding
Your Capacity to Believe God.” Before we get into series I feel led to share
something that I read this morning. I normally read and pray before I seek
God to share Today’s Word. This morning I was reading a book by Oral
Roberts entitled, “When you See the Invisible you can Do the
Impossible.” In it he talks of his father’s priceless secret of loving the
Bible. He said, “Papa was a gifted storyteller. He made the people in
those stories live. He did not just describe them, but through his words
he took us where they were, and let us see and hear and feel them and their
faith.” Oral Roberts explained how these stories had a lasting effect on
his life and his ministry. He said that his father’s ability to preach the
great themes of the Bible in story-form helped him do the same in his
preaching.

I did not learn my storytelling format from my
father, but as long I can remember I could tell a good story. I read some books
many years ago that helped me use my gift of storytelling in my preaching and
teaching. When I read the Bible I don’t see stories, I see people. I
see people who, like me, were simply trying to please God. They faced
challenges, failures, victories, defeats, ups, and downs. They were not
super-human; they were just people that wanted to do right.

That leads us back to Jacob. After settling the
issue with his brother – with the favour of God – Jacob continued his journey
back to Canaan. He was now determined to
get to the place God instructed him to go and to setup his own life, with his
own family, in his homeland. After journeying through northern Syria Jacob
arrived safely at Shechem in Canaan and set up
camp outside the city. The land where he camped was owned by the
descendants of Hamor, the father of Shechem. Jacob liked the land and he
wanted to settle there. He was no different than us. In today’s terms
he was “house-hunting;” or I guess we can say that he was
“land-hunting.” He liked the land and he wanted to setup there so he put
in an offer of 100 pieces of silver. The owner of the property accepted
and the deal was done. Jacob now had land back in his home country and he
set up his tents on it. Guess what he first order of priority
was? He built an altar there to honour the God of Israel. (see Genesis
33:18-20).

So what does this mean to you today? It means that these things were
written as a testimony for you. God led Moses to document all the details
of these journeys so that you could identify with these people. If you want a family you can identify
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they all wanted families. If you are struggling with having children
you can identify with them, because they all struggled with having
children. If you want a house and
some land you can identify with them, because they wanted that as
well. If you want to provide for
your family… and the list could go on. What’s the point? If we want what
they wanted and want to get what they got we should learn from what they did. They believed God, they operated in faith, and
they honoured God every chance they had. They setup altars everywhere they
went, they worshipped God, and they made offerings to God of the things that He
blessed them with. What are you standing in need of today? Ask
yourself, what would Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob do to get it? Learn from
them and your life will be the better.

Confession for this day: Lord God. I learn from Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob. I realize they were ordinary people through which You did extraordinary things. I
imitate their faith, their belief, and their dedication to worship. I reap
the benefits of learning from those that have gone before me. I also dream
big dreams and believe You to bring
them to pass.
